Entering the new year it begins to look as though the solution to the pandemic might just be the pandemic itself. Notwithstanding the vaccines, which have undoubtedly saved tens of thousands of lives in the UK alone, omicron appears to be muscling the somewhat more harmful delta out of the picture. As many virologists know, it is difficult for two viruses to co-exist in the human body for any greater length of time. Omicron out-competing delta has (hopefully) resulted in something more akin to the common cold (also often a corona virus) being the dominant form. In mindfulness we contemplate the ‘wound’ itself and listen for any teaching it might hold. In February 2018’s Newsletter we explored the idea of working with physical pain. This lesson is important because if you have pain you have something to work with. So, write down your challenge, pain or question, set a timer for five minutes, take a deep breath. Relax. Close your eyes. Bat away your distractions and refocus on the physical sensation of your breath. Continue. Repeat. Continue. Repeat. And when the timer rings. Write down what comes naturally from the silence. Is it something that has been under your nose the whole time? Or is it something complex you haven't considered before? Whatever happens you’ve allowed yourself to explore, without suffering the burden of the exploration itself.
