Now more than ever we are finding work is taking us to locations not just across the nation but also across the world. On top of this many of us are trying to settle down and provide some stability for a family unit. Sadly, most world economies are still heavily city centric with much service and support work still required in town. It is interesting to note that recent attempts both by government and the banking sector to encourage people back to the office have been thwarted by the knock on effects of the cost of living crisis. We are seeing industrial action, high public transport costs and the ongoing threat of viral variants combine to make working from home more and more attractive. Perhaps now is the best time ever to consider building the nest wherever you want. Perhaps now is the moment where access to a metropolis within 30-60mins is no longer required. Of course, face to face meetings accomplish more than remote ones, so there will be times when a significant chunk of change will be needed to make the journey to town. And if you live more than three hours from a major city this may prove problematic. Especially with rail fares being high and bus journeys confined to over laden public highway systems. Luckily people who live in cities are using online couch surfing and room letting applications to subsidise high rents and mortgages, so there are options. Maybe you want to buy a small woodland a two-and-half-hour train ride from a major metropolis and put a large caravan on it connected to mains electric and water. Maybe you’ve discovered a battered old cottage three miles from an intercity train station and a stone’s throw from a newly erected fibre broadband box. Maybe you want to be completely mobile for a few years. Minimalizing belongings, sourcing local food, being a conscious consumer, using solar and slowly moving around with the warm weather can mitigate the carbon footprint of this lifestyle. So, take a deep breath and visualise your perfect spot. Write down each of the elements that comprise that perfect spot. Set your intention and calmly build the avenues and pathways to realize your goal. Naturally there will be setbacks but use these to refine your goal rather than block it.
